If you have been waiting on your child's Summer Pandemic Electronic Benefits Transfer (P-EBT) and wondering why funds haven't loaded on the card yet, you are not alone. Many Louisiana residents have been concerned about the delay in benefits. This week, the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) gave an update on the situation.  in response to questions about Summer Pandemic Electronic Benefits Transfer (P-EBT) benefits.

The summer P-EBT food benefits program is a partnership between DCFS and the Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE), for children in K-12 schools. Families can expect to start receiving benefits when schools get back in session and begin to submit eligibility info verifying eligible students for the program. This is why most children have not received the benefits yet.

However, upon attendance verification students who received P-EBT benefits in May 2022 should be receiving benefits already. Benefits are reloaded every week on Wednesday. Every eligible child will receive two installments payments, one for $195 and a second for $196. This is the total of $391 to cover benefits for both June and July.

Students that are eligible for Summer P-EBT benefits fit into either of the following categories:

1.) Receive free or reduced-price school meals through the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and School Breakfast Program (SBP)

2.)Attend a Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) school, where all children receive free meals regardless of family income, as of May 2022.

Please note - Students who were not previously approved for free or reduced-price lunch, apply by July 29, 2022, and later get approved, will also be eligible to receive Summer P-EBT. Keep in mind that there may be a delay in benefits.
