Louisiana Shatters COVID Hospitalization Record
In the latest reports from the LA Department of Health, the state has beat its own record of 2,069 hospitalizations in January. Now in the fourth, and deadliest, COVID surge the Health Dept. report revealed the state currently has 2,112 patients in hospitals and 222 on ventilators. If that's not bad enough, there are 4,725 new COVID cases, 2,000 of those cases are children and 59 people have now died.
As the state experiences the worst COVID surge to date, Governor John Bel Edwards has issued a statewide indoor Mask Mandate that goes into effect on Wednesday, August 4, 2021, until further notice. Paul Salles, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Louisiana Hospital Association said hospitals across the state are struggling to keep up,
“As Louisiana once again faces another COVID-19 wave being fueled by the Delta variant, the demand being placed on hospitals across the state is simply unsustainable. The Louisiana Hospital Association, along with many of our hospitals and health systems, continues to promote the use of mitigation measures, such as the use of face coverings indoors, social distancing, limiting the size of indoor gatherings, and most importantly, getting vaccinated…”
