Local Swamp Pop Artist Howard Sonnier Has Died

The local Louisiana music scene is saddened today as we have learned of the passing of Mr. Howard Sonnier, who was one of Southwest Louisiana's well known Swamp Pop artists.

Howard Sonnier played and recorded music in the Louisiana music scene for many years. He was backed by his beloved band, Highway Lights.

Howard is best known for one of his hit songs, I Believe, which Cajun Radio 1290AM still plays to this day.

His beloved Mrs. Debbie kept his fans updated on social media on the progress and provided updates on Howard as he battled cancer for 18 months. Overnight, she took to Facebook to provide the news that Howard had passed away.

Howard was not only a great artist but was also my buddy. I had the chance to watch him play live, interview him in the studio, and play his music on the radio.

Howard was a gracious guy and loved playing and entertaining folks all over while keeping traditional Louisiana music alive. RIP, Howard. We will miss you.
