King and Queen Announced for Washington DC Mardi Gras
Mardi Gras is still Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, MLK Day, Groundhog's Day, and Valentine's Day away but that doesn't stop Louisiana revellers from preparing to party. One of the bigger celebrations of Mardi Gras outside of Louisiana takes place in Washington DC. Naturally, it's an event that's hosted, supported, and energized by Louisiana's congressional delegation as well our state's business and industry leaders too.
The Mystick Krewe of Louisianians has already announced royalty for this year's Washington DC celebration. The Chair of the 74th Washington Mardi Gras is Louisiana Congresswoman Julia Letlow. Congresswoman Letlow represents Louisiana's 5th Congressional District and has served in Congress since April of 2021.
As part of her duties as Chair of Washington Mardi Gras Ms Letlow has selected the royal court. The King of 2023 will be Fred Heebe. Heebe is an owner of River Birch Renewable Energy, the nation's second-largest producer of green energy from landfill waste.
Congresswoman Letlow selected Virginia Grace Mills as Queen of 2023. She's the daughter of Catherine and Carter Mills of Lincoln Parish. Mills is currently a senior at Washington University in St. Louis Missouri.
The Washington Mardi Gras celebration is scheduled for January 27th through January 29th. There will be special events held in the nation's capital each day with the actual Mardi Gras Ball planned for January 29th.
The Washington Mardi Gras Ball and the events surrounding it have become a tradition in the nation's capital over the past several decades. The event is not only an opportunity for Louisiana politicos and business leaders to meet and mingle with movers and shakers in Washington, but it's also an opportunity to share our state's culture with those who might not be familiar with it.
The event also attracts a lot of media attention which brings more visitors to the "real Mardi Gras" in Louisiana. By the way, "real Mardi Gras" this year Tuesday, February 21st. I am sure people in Scott Louisiana have already marked their spots along the parade route.
