The remaining seven singers each performed a song from Swift's catalog before saluting California's biggest artists. A pleasant surprise for country fans was a beautiful cover of a Merle Haggard original.
Once again, Jordan McCullough and Keyla Richardson stood out, although neither is all-out running away with the competition.
Here is a full list of finalist performances:
Braden Rumfelt: Taylor Swift, "Cardigan" and Maroon 5, "This Love"
Brooks: Taylor Swift, "Love Story" and Maroon 5, "She Will Be Loved"
Chris Tungseth: Taylor Swift, "Exile" and Billie Eilish, "What Was I Made For?"
Daniel Stallworth: Taylor Swift, "Fearless" and Daniel Caesar, "Best Part"
Hannah Harper: Taylor Swift, "Mean" and Merle Haggard, "That's the Way Love Goes"
Jordan McCullough: Taylor Swift, "Tim McGraw" and Bonnie Raitt, "I Can't Make You Love Me"
Keyla Richardson: Taylor Swift, "Lover" and Etta James, "I'd Rather Go Blind"
Was Taylor Swift on American Idol?
The country and pop superstar was not present for the seven finalists to sing her songs. Each singer picked a Swift song, and it was interesting to see which era everyone went with.
McCullough's cover of "Tim McGraw" surprised judges and he made it his own. Hannah Harper was also praised for "Mean," but Brooks was not as fortunate.
The panel and guest judge Nikki Glaser wanted more from the Maryland-raised singer. He chose "Love Story" and it left him vulnerable.
Who Went Home on American Idol?
Monday's (April 27) episode of American Idol identified a bottom three: Brooks, Chris Tungseth and Daniel Stallworth.
This was a new position for all of them, with Tungseth perhaps the most surprising of the three on the chopping block. In the end, he was safe.
Brooks and Daniel Stallworth were sent home at the end of last night's American Idol.
