A 2014 TIME Magazine publication, reported the Tibetan Mastiff had become the most expensive dog in the world after a Chinese property developer paid an incredible 12 million Yuan (equivalent of $1.9 million U.S.) for a Golden Tibetan Mastiff puppy.

The dog was reportedly purchased in Zhejiang, China at a luxury pet expo from breeder Zhang Gengyun. Talk about the lifestyles of the rich and famous. Apparently, this doggie price tag was not as outrageous as it seemed given the breeder sold a Red Tibetan Mastiff for 6 million yuan (the equivalent of $968,000 U.S.!)
