❄️ Winter Storm Update: Snow and Extreme Cold Coming to Louisiana ❄️
Louisiana is bracing for frigid weather, with possible snow and ice in the forecast. Travel of any kind becomes extremely dangerous. Residents are asked to stay off the roadways.
With dangerously cold temperatures and wind chills in the forecast Monday through Wednesday, NOW is the time to prepare! Have in plan and a place for the elderly and those who don’t have reliable access to warm shelter.
Please plan to bring animals in or prepare a shelter for them to stay warm. It is illegal to leave your dogs or cats outside without shelter, especially in subfreezing, extreme heat, or any severe weather conditions. Animal cruelty is a crime in Louisiana with the first offense punishable by up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.
If you see an animal suffering from cruelty report the abuse immediately by calling 911 or contacting the Calcasieu Parish Animal Services (337) 721-3730. Make sure if you leave your animals outside that they have ample shelter to stay warm and dry, and have access to food and fresh unfrozen water.

💡 Preparation Tips:
To get ahead of the storm residents have two days to take care of errands, refill medication, pick up extra food, and stuff like that. Check on mom and dad, the grandparents, and make sure they have what they need.
You may also want to take advantage of the mild temperatures on Saturday and Sunday to do some exterior maintenance on the house. Depending on how ambitious you feel of course! Caulking a few drafty windows, putting winter stripping on the doors, bathing the outside animals so they are ready to come inside during the freezing temperatures cleaning filters, and vents, and making sure the wood-burning fireplace is clean and free of debris.
If you don't do anything else, make sure you take care of your pipes and run water. Below are some great tips from master plumbers at Ace Air Conditioning. Learn how to shut off water valves to avoid pipe bursts.
