What Is The Juneteenth Holiday All About?
Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, commemorates June 19, 1865—the day enslaved African Americans in Texas were finally told they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed.
It’s a celebration of freedom, resilience, and the ongoing pursuit of justice, observed across the U.S. with gatherings, parades, storytelling, music, and community reflection.
Let this day remind us all that freedom is worth honoring—not just with a day off, but with renewed understanding and unity.
