Lake Charles, Louisiana (KNGT-FM) - The Mardi Gras season is in full swing, and the excitement is just getting started! Fat Tuesday is only a few days away, and Downtown Lake Charles will be alive with parades, music, and celebrations.
This year, the kids’ zone is back in a new Downtown location, and we’ve got everything you need to know to plan a fun, family-friendly Fat Tuesday.

Tips for Families this Mardi Gras Season
- Arrive Early: Parade routes can get crowded, so it's a good idea to arrive ahead of time to find a comfortable spot.
- Parking: Be aware of parking restrictions, especially on Ryan Street. Consider using designated parking areas or public transportation to avoid any hassles.
- Safety: Keep an eye on children at all times, as crowds can be overwhelming. Establish a meeting point in case anyone gets separated.
- Essentials: Bring essentials like sunscreen, water, snacks, and ear protection for young children, especially during loud events.

Mardi Gras in the Zone 2026
The event is free and packed with kid-friendly activities. There will be a live DJ, laser tag, bounce house, mini golf, inflatable sports games, train rides, and the Bayou Game Truck. Activity tents will also be available for younger children. Mardi Gras in the Zone is also alcohol- and tobacco-free, making it safe and fun for kids of all ages.
Families can also enjoy complimentary hot dogs, snow cones, popcorn, and soft drinks while taking a break from the parade excitement.
Location Change for Mardi Gras in the Zone
The Zone will be open Tuesday, February 17, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. It will be along the parade route between Gill Street and Kirby Street, near the Old Historic Courthouse lawn.
