If Cajuns Named Hurricanes, Here’s What They Would Be
It has been one active hurricane season already and for people in Louisiana, it can't end soon enough. We already had a close call a couple of weeks ago but thankfully it moved further East and out of our area.
To think about having another hurricane in Southwest Louisiana just brings back bad memories of 2020 when Hurricane Laura and Delta slammed right into Southwest Louisiana.
The 2024 hurricane season names are already at the letter H with Helene threatening the panhandle of Florida this week. The names they give these hurricanes are sometimes strange but we thought what if they let Louisiana Cajuns name the hurricanes? What would those be like?
We came up with some real Cajun names of people we know and also some Cajun words we thought you might get a kick out of.
- Hurricane Tuante (Aunt)
- Hurricane Nonc (uncle)
- Hurricane Graton (Means the burnt part of the rice at the bottom of the pot)
- Hurricane Rougarou (Means Cajun Bigfoot or monster)
- Hurricane Gris Gris (To put a curse on somebody)
- Hurricane Fais do-do (means a Cajun dance party)
- Hurricane Ça C'est bon (Means Thats Good) But not if a hurricane comes
- Hurricane Consons (Means underwear or draws)
- Hurricane Frissons (Means The Goosebumps or the Chills)
- Hurricane Coushon (Pig)
- Hurricane Couillon (Foolish Person or idiot)
- Hurricane Courtbouillon (Cajun Stew)
- Hurricane Fricassée
- Hurricane Bourre (Boo Ray which is a Cajun card game)
- Hurricane Lagniappe (Means A little Something Extra)
- Hurricane Andouille (Cajun Sausage)
- Hurricane Envie (Means Hungry or wants something)
So there are a few we came up with. We hope you enjoyed those. Now let's hope all these storms that have been forming this year stay the heck away from us!
