Andre Sam committed to McNeese while playing wide receiver and defensive back for the Iowa Yellowjackets, where he tore it up. Sam played eight games in his four seasons with the Cowboys, recording nine tackles, five interceptions, and one forced fumble. However, ahead of the 2022 campaign, Sam transferred to Marshall to play under former McNeese head coach Lance Guidry.
After playing one season for the Thundering Herd, where he recorded 53 tackles and one interception, Sam re-entered his name into the portal once it was revealed that Guidry was leaving to become the defensive coordinator for the Green Wave at Tulane. Guidry would abruptly leave Tulane for Miami, and Sam would enter his name back in to the transfer portal.
Later on, Sam would find himself at LSU. Amidst LSU's defensive woes, Andre Sam emerged as a shining light. With over 80 tackles, 39 of which are solo, he was third on the team. He also leads the Tigers with three interceptions and 60 yards in return yards.
