Cash App Settlement Brings Millions to Louisiana After Scam Claims

Thousands of Cash App users across the country were victims of scams, and now the company behind the popular payment app has agreed to pay millions of dollars to settle claims. Louisiana is going to get a gigantic payout from the settlement.

This is all due to an investigation that said Cash App did not do enough to protect users from fraud. During the investigation, investigators said the company did not provide the customer support and fraud protection it promised.
Investigators said Cash App's weak security measures made it easier for scammers to create fake accounts and target users. They also said the company did not offer phone support for years, causing some users to fall victim to fake customer service scams.
Louisiana Attorney General Weighs In
Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill says these companies need to do a better job of keeping our money safe...
"Cash App promised consumers a safe way to send and receive money, but too many Louisianans were left on their own when fraud occurred," Murrill said. "Companies that handle people's money have a responsibility to protect their customers and follow the law."

The settlement also requires Cash App to improve its customer support by offering live help for fraud complaints, account issues, and other problems.
Investigators also pointed to the popular "Cash App Fridays" promotion. During the giveaway, users would post their $cashtag on social media for a chance to win money. According to the investigation, scammers used those posts to trick people into giving away their login information by pretending they had won a prize.
