But if you've driven along North Lakeshore Drive recently, you've probably noticed some big changes. Trees are being removed, signs are coming down, and there's a lot of activity surrounding the businesses just north of the interstate.

Unfortunately, they won't be staying where they are. Every business in the affected area will have to leave its current location because the new interstate approach to the bridge will run right through that property.

Fascinating Facts About The Old I-10 Bridge

  • The actual name of the I-10 bridge is the Louisiana Memorial World War II Bridge, which was named in June of 1951.
  • The bridge opened in 1952 to traffic
  • The ironwork with crossed guns on the railings is believed to be a reference to Jean Lafitte and the pirates who came to Lake Charles at one time.

That means familiar Lake Charles businesses, including Steamboat Bill's, Waffle House, hotels, and our own Townsquare Media studios, will all be displaced. Some will relocate and reopen elsewhere, while others may close their doors permanently.
