This hike is ideal if you're captivated by Louisiana's abandoned locations! The Woodlands Conservancy, tucked away in Belle Chasse's marshes, is a stunning location with many of hiking trails to explore. It also hosts educational programs and special events aimed at preserving and educating the public about these resources so that future generations can enjoy them. There is one track in particular that leads to a special location with multiple WWII artifacts, serving as a reminder of the area's military history.

There are several routes here, but the Bottomland Trail is the one you should take if you want to find the cluster of WWII ammo magazines.

Bring your gentle giant along for a trip; the trail is actually a set of parallel trails, one for equestrians and one for pedestrians.

Beautiful views of the nearby wetlands will be available to you along the route, and you may even spot some wildlife.

A unique sight you don't see every day awaits you at the end of the trail: ten World War II ammunition magazines.

The region served as the Marine Base Naval Ammunition Depot for the Navy from 1939 to 1956.

Please feel free to enter and explore the space. Although they are empty, you might want to run a quick critter check first—you never know what kind of wildlife might have made its way inside!
