BE PREPARED FOR A HURRICANE

The 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season began on Sunday, and residents should already be preparing for the potential of a dangerous storm.

  • FUEL UP - Top off your tank early. Gas stations get packed once a storm is named.
  • GET IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS READY - Keep IDs, insurance info, and anything legal or medical in a waterproof folder or Ziploc. You’ll thank yourself later.
  • PREPARE YOUR HOUSE - Check your generator, trim trees, clear your yard of loose items, and have a way to board up windows if needed.
  • KNOW YOUR EVACUATION AREA AND PLAN - Know if you’re in an evacuation area and have a place to go if things get bad. Make a plan with family or friends.
  • STAY UP TO DATE - Follow local news, download weather apps, and listen to your local radio (like Gator 99.5!) for updates and emergency info.
  • HAVE CASH - If the power goes out, card machines may not work. Keep some emergency cash on hand.
  • STOCK UP EARLY - Don’t wait until a storm is on the news. Grab water, non-perishable food, flashlights, batteries, phone chargers, a first-aid kit, and baby/pet supplies if needed.

This list has the top 10 things you gotta have to survive the storm like a pro (or at least not cry in the dark).
