I am not a big fan of eating leftovers regardless of the occasion. Yet, there is something special about that second helping of Holiday food that makes my tummy happy. From my mom, In-laws, and even aunts, I have heard so many things when it comes to saving food from the holidays. How long can you eat the food and how long you should keep it for later. So I decided to try and do a little research on my own to find out just how long you should hold on to those Thanksgiving leftovers.

According to Fox News.com, many of the favorites actually have a little time to play with when it comes to storing them for future use. I am sure you would be happy to hear that Turkey can be kept for 3 to 4 days and frozen for longer with the probability of lasting for a couple of months. The stuffing which is my favorite should be eaten within a few days but can be frozen within if not eaten and can last for 3 to 4 months after being originally cooked.

While Cranberry Sauce is usually canned unlike some of the other foods. When it is open, you have a few days to eat if it's refrigerated, while Freezing is not particularly recommended for Cranberry sauce that has already been opened. We have seen too many times where people have eaten things a few days later and have gotten food poisoning. Most of this is due to things not being properly stored in the refrigerator or freezer which can lead to a few days of sickness from eating bad foods. It is holiday time and while we are all eager to enjoy great food and friends, don't forget about getting those leftovers in the right place so when you do have a taste for some more, you can get it when you want it.
