It is a big day for former LSU football player Patrick Peterson as he just signed a record setting extension with the Arizona Cardinals.

Patrick took to Twitter to announce the news that he just signed a $70 million dollar extension with $48 million guaranteed!

The five year $70 million dollar extension with $48 million guaranteed now makes him the highest paid cornerback in the NFL.  He is now under contract till 2020.

Patrick was drafted as the 5th overall pick in 2011 NFL draft. In that short time, Patrick Peterson has also become a premier player in the NFl and was selected to the Pro Bowl.

Peterson who is from Pompano Beach, Florida played for the LSU Tigers from 2008 to 2010 when he left for the NFL after his Junior season and during his Junior year there was talks of Heisman trophy consideration. 

He won the 2010 Bednarik Award Winner (Nation's Top Defender), the 2010 Thorpe Award Winner (Nation's Top Defensive Back), and the 2010 First-Team All-American (AP, AFCA Coaches, Walter Camp, Football Writers Association of America, CBSsports.com,   Rivals.com, CollegeFootballNews.com).
