President Joe Biden’s administration announced FEMA will be setting up the first federally run mass vaccination site in Louisiana this Friday in Baton Rouge.

The event will open at the Bon Carre Business Center about five miles away from the Capitol. If you would like to attend the event and get vaccinated, you must make an appointment here.

The White House decided to place the vaccination event in the most populated parish in Louisiana because the city would be big enough to handle the traffic from incoming residents and they would have the ability to support drive-thru lanes and walk-up vaccinations. Government officials say the site will be able to vaccinate 3,000 Louisiana residents a day and give 21,000 shots each week.

The vaccines at the event will be provided by the federal government and will not diminish the supplies given to the state. Governor John Bel Edwards thanked the President for allowing Louisiana to hold one of these events and said he hopes this will encourage more residents to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

Currently, there are nine federally run mass vaccinations sites around the country. Last week, the Biden administration announced Baton Rouge and Tulsa, Oklahoma will be the next to open.
