A crash in Sulphur on Wednesday, September 12, left two local people dead at the scene. An investigation continues into what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway.

According to a media release, at about 7 pm deputies with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to E. Burton St and Isabella Dr. in Sulphur in reference to a one-vehicle crash.

"Evidence at the scene indicated the car was traveling eastbound on E. Burton St. when the car left the roadway on the south side of the road and traveled approximately 300 feet before hitting a tree. Natasha Pego, 35, Westlake, the driver of the car, and William Cranford, 41, Sulphur, were pronounced dead at the scene."

Standard toxicology testing will be done on the driver.
