Crane Falls on Truck, Killing Two Men on I-10 Near Beaumont
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, 37-year-old driver Sarfaraz Karowadia and his passenger, 42-year-old Altaf Kasowadia were killed in a tragic accident on I-10 Thursday. The two men were reportedly from Friendswood, Texas and traveling west on I-10 when the boom of a crane fell on their vehicle.
The incident brought traffic to a standstill for roughly five hours. The accident happened outside of Beaumont, near the interstate widening construction site. Thursday afternoon. KBMT TV reports, construction crews were working in the area and operating the crane when it fell on top of Karowadia's 2013 Toyota pickup when he drove by. The boom crushed the entire truck cabin, killing the men on the scene.
DPS, OSHA and federal officials have launched an investigation into what caused the giant crane to collapse. Our condolences to the families of the two men.
