As of 2:30 p.m. today, June 29, Calcasieu Parish residents can receive a same-sex marriage license at the Clerk of Court's office.

KPLC reported that the Clerk's office went ahead with the issuance after legal counsel from the state's Clerk of Court Association advised them to do so. The news came after Gov. Bobby Jindal initially said he'd fight any issuance of licenses in the state. This weekend, on NBC's Meet the Press Jindal backed down on his stance, noting the state would likely be forced to issue the licenses by law.

The fee is $27.50 with only cash payment accepted (no bills larger than a $20 accepted, either). Licenses are good for 30 days following their issuance.
