Big Brothers Big Sisters Of SWLA Opens Program Enrollment
Big Brothers and Big Sisters (BBBS) of Southwest Louisiana has announced they are now opening fall enrollment to recruit Mentors and also encourage parents and caregivers to enroll their children in the program.
Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Southwest Louisiana had to put enrollment on hold after Hurricanes Laura and Delta because many of their Big Brothers and Big Sisters staff, Littles, Mentors, and families were displaced during both of the storms.
For parents and guardians, BBBS is asking them to enroll their youth, and the age range is from six years old to 18 years of age.
Officials with the BBBS said there is a strong need for both male and female mentors. You must be at least 18 years old. If you are interesting in being a Mentor for a Little, your commitment is spending time with the Little you are paired with a minimum of twice a month and do activities together out in the community.
Alex Stinchcomb with BBS says,
The main focus is to spend time together to talk and build meaningful relationships, as well as creating and developing a one-to-one mentoring relationship between the Big and Little. This evidence-based mentoring program shows that youth paired with a Big are more likely to be promoted to the next grade level, and less likely to be involved in the juvenile justice system.
