19 Cases of the Coronavirus Delta Variant Confirmed in Louisiana
The Louisiana Department of Health believes that the Delta variant of COVID-19 will be the dominant strain in the state within a month.
Dr. Joseph Kanter, top medical official at the LDH, says Louisiana has 19 confirmed cases of the highly-contagious Delta variant. He believes many more people in the state have the variant and estimates that to be around 25 percent of the total cases.
Kanter went on to say Louisiana residents who haven't been vaccinated should take notice of the climbing numbers of this certain variant. He says the Delta variant is very dangerous and the CDC predicts the variant will double the infection numbers in two to three weeks.
Dr. Kanter told WDSU communities in the state with low vaccination numbers are at high risk. He believes the outbreaks will start there.
