[VIDEO] Former NFL Player’s Home In Orange, Texas Catches Fire
A former All-Pro NFL player's home caught fire and much of it collapsed from the damage.
Thomas had a storied football career staring at the University of Texas, then winning a Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks in the NFL.
Earl Thomas, an Orange, TX native, told KHOU that he and other family members heard a loud pop before the blaze engulfed his home.
KHOU reports that when firefighters arrived on the scene, they tried to enter the home but then had to take a "defensive position" as the smoke was too thick to fight the fire effectively.
Investigators say that it's not out of the realm of possibility that a lightning strike could be the cause of the fire. In fact, KHOU's weather team looked back at data for that day and confirmed that lightning strikes were happening in the area as a storm rolled through.
From the initial reports, it looks as though Thomas' home is a total loss.
