This Saturday, April 28, 2012, the Louisiana Passenger Safety Task Force will conduct free child passenger safety seat checks in Lake Charles.  These checks will be conducted by nationally certified child passenger safety technicians who will provide advice and hands-on child safety seat inspections at no charge.

The event will take place at Lake Charles Toyota located at 3905 Gerstner Memorial Drive in Lake Charles (LA Highway 14 south of Interstate 210) from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Lake Charles Toyota will provide free hot dogs and soft drinks.

It is estimated that approximately 3 out of 4 child restraint systems are being misused.  This child passenger safety check event is an opportunity for caregivers to have child restraints in their vehicle checked free of charge.

Child safety seats and booster seats save lives.  They offer the best protection for children in the event of a crash.  During the past 30 years, approximately 8,959 lives have been saved by the use of child restraints according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).  It is important that caregivers ensure children are properly restrained in an appropriate child safety seat, booster seat, or seat belt—every trip, every time.

Participating agencies include the Louisiana State Police, Lake Charles City Police, Lake Charles Fire Department, Sulphur Fire Department, and the United Way of Southwest Louisiana.

Support for this event is provided by the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission.
