Spelling Bee Champ Zaila Avant-garde Speaks At Washington-Marion
2021 Scripps National Spelling Bee champion, Zaila Avant-garde, is on a statewide speaking tour and stopping at various schools to share her remarkable story of winning Scripps, the importance of education, and a message that all things are possible if you believe in yourself.
The gifted student a student from Harvey, Louisiana, is also an extraordinary basketball player. So much so, that she currently holds several basketball Guinness World Records. If that's not enough, Zaila can name her university after was offered a full-ride LSU, Southern University, and Louisiana Community and Technical College System. Zaila won bragging rights until the next Bee winner "dethrones" her, she also walked away with a $50,000 prize for spelling the word Murraya, which is a genus of tropical Asiatic and Australian trees.
By the way, actor/director and iconic children's TV Host, LeVar Burton, will be hosting the 2022 Scripps National Spelling Bee Semifinals and Finals airing on ION and Bounce this June. I will be watching!
