Southwest Louisiana is Number One in Seatbelt Usage
Last week we heard the news that Louisiana is ranked dead last in driving. We won the honor of being the state with the worst drivers. We even beat Mississippi, Arkansas and Alabama! We needed some good news and thanks to Louisiana State Police Troop D ... we got it.
According to the press release For the second year in a row, the Troop D area leads the state in seatbelt use. For 2013, the front seat seatbelt compliance rate for the Lake Charles area (Troop D area) was 91%. This is 5.5% higher than the next highest compliance rate in our state and compares to a statewide compliance rate of 82.5%
In 2012, the compliance rate for the Lake Charles area was 85.6%. This compares to a statewide compliance rate last year of 79.3%.
This kind of accomplishment does not come easily. Louisiana State Police Troop D issued more than 8,000 seatbelt tickets last year. Louisiana State police Troop D also coordinated seatbelt safety education efforts through local media, schools, churches and at community events.
We are number one! It feels really good to say that. Thanks Troop D for helping to keep us safe.
