Southbound 5th Avenue Bridge to Be Removed and Replaced
Lake Charles, La. - The Southbound 5th Avenue bridge over Contraband Bayou will be temporarily closed beginning Wednesday, July 5, 2017, said a City of Lake Charles press release. Traffic will be detoured to Power Center Parkway, to Gerstner Memorial Highway. Only local traffic will be allowed past Power Center Parkway to access the businesses and apartment complex’s in the area.
There will be signs posted along 5th avenue to warn drivers of the road work, and the bridge outage. A turnaround will also be temporarily installed to assist with traffic.
The southbound bridge will be removed and replaced, and according to the City of Lake Charles, “this state funded project (No. H.010563) is expected to last for up to five months. Travelers should exercise caution when driving in this area.”
Residents of Valley View Apartments, Whispering Pines Apartments, and Christian Baptist Church’s south location will be notified by the city.
