New Lake Charles VA Clinic Set To Open Monday, Volunteers Still Needed [VIDEO]
The new Veterans Administration outpatient clinic on Gerstner Memorial Drive in Lake Charles is scheduled to open for business on Monday, August 28th.
The project is a long time coming for the people of southwest Louisiana who have served our country who have had to drive to Alexandria, Lafayette, or beyond to receive the treatment they may have needed that is provided and due to them because of that service.
The 24,000-square-foot facility will offer improved primary care services, as well as access to dental and optical health services. There will be specialty care services available on a rotating basis. Veterans will have access to physical therapy services, prosthetic and orthotic services, basic imaging, and be able to have some of their lab work drawn there.
Veterans will also have more and better access to mental health services.
VA clinics across the country also rely on the help of volunteers to help at their facilities, and Lake Charles is no exception. Public Affairs Officer Tammie Arnold told KPLC TV they simply need people who are willing to be a positive influence in the facility,
serving a hot cup of coffee and a big smile.
If you are able to give any amount of time each week or month, you can contact Terro Celestine at (318) 466-2708 or Tammie Arnold at (318) 466-2061.
Mayor Nic Hunter issued a challenge on his Facebook page to increase the number of volunteers.
God Bless America and God Bless Our Veterans!
