We hear of celebrities passing away it seems almost every day now.  Well we did some research to see which famous celebrities are buried here in the Southwest Louisiana area and more specifically here in Calcasieu Parish

Mike "Johnny Grunge" Durham

Mike was a professional wrestler and went by the name "Johnny Grunge".  He was one half of the tag team of Public Enemy.  He was best known when he wrestled in the ECW. Mike died February 16, 2006 and he is buried in Mimosa Pines Cemetery in Carlyss.

Wayne McLaren

Wayne was an actor who during the 1970's he appeared in ads for cigarettes as the "Marlboro Man."  He was born in Lake Charles on September 12, 1940 and died in 1992.  He is buried at the City of Lake Charles cemetery.

Wilson "Boozoo" Chavis

Boozoo Chavis was a famous Zydeco musician born right here in Lake Charles.  He recorded some of his most famous music at Eddie Shuler's Goldband Records on Church street in Lake Charles.   Boozoo was the first artist to record "Paper in My Shoe" in 1954. Sam Houston Jones

Sam Houston Jones was originally from Merryville Louisiana and served as the Governor of Louisiana from 1940-1944. Jones died in 1978 at the age of 80.  He is buried at Prien Memorial Park cemetery off of Country Club Road in Lake Charles.

The state park in Moss Bluff is named after Sam Houston Jones.

Surprised to see these famous people were from here?  Me too.  Kind of cool to know it.
