Freshman quarterback Anthony Jennings is stepping up to the starting position as the LSU Tigers prepare to head to Tampa, Fla., on New Year's Day for the Outback Bowl.

The game is set for noon as the Tigers face off against the Iowa Hawkeyes.  It's the second time LSU has been to the Outback Bowl since losing to Syracuse there in 1988, and it's the second time Iowa and LSU have ever faced off.  Iowa (8-4) has been to the Outback Bowl four times previously.

Jennings, meanwhile, picked up some notoriety in the last game LSU played against Arkansas.  That was after starter Zach Mettenberger tore his ACL in that game.

Mettenberger, expected to have surgery in the next two weeks, will rehab in Baton Rouge and will “be around” the team during bowl practice, Miles said. He may even travel with the squad to Tampa. -- The Baton Rouge Advocate

If LSU takes down Iowa, it will cap off the fourth season in a row where LSU claimed at least 10 wins.
