Louisiana Halts Insurance Cancellations, Allstate Issuing Refunds
If you've been sweating the bills lately, this should come as a bit of a relief. Insurance Journal is reporting that Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon has instated Rule 40. This statewide order places a moratorium on insurance policy cancellations and non-renewals for policyholders. That means that even if you are failing behind on your premiums during the Coronavirus pandemic crisis, you don't have to worry about your insurance dropping you. You will have to pay eventually, but this wiggle room might be just what you need to get through.
On top of that, Allstate is refunding hundreds of millions of dollars to their customers during this difficult time. Simply put, with more American drivers at home instead of on the road, there has been a dramatic drop in accident claims and therefore payouts from the company. Allstate CEO Tom Wilson told the Wall Street Journal that driving was down “an unprecedented” 35% to 50% in the US in the last 30 days.
