The state of Texas is trying to avoid a potentially massive problem in not having not enough homes for everyone. However, there's still a lot of work to be done. What is causing the issue?

Texas Housing Falling Behind, Even Though Construction Continues

Many of us in the Lone Star State have noticed the assembly of new homes and apartments everywhere. But even though assembly of these homes is happening, the state still isn't making any headway for everyone. As is turns out, there are two major items stopping progress.

According to The Real Deal, both economic growth and population influx are the issues facing the Lone Star State. Per Up For Growth policy director, David Garcia:

“Texas has been building extensively, but it’s often not enough to keep up with both in-state demand and out-of-state migration."

The housing issue also causes a growth in one thing we all hate: rising costs. As reported by The Real Deal, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio are affected. So if one is looking for a home in those cities, it's a bit harder than one would expect.

Overall, 2022 data shows that the shortage grew over by 14,000 from the original number of 306,000. But thankfully, one city is making growth. Austin is making a dent in housing, but there's still a lot to do.

The Real Deal stated that thanks to the growth in building, rent prices have decreased. But, the shortage still affects the city, as 24,000 homes will still need to be constructed.

So it seems like Texas still has work to do for homes in the state.
