Beyond the Ride: The Real Struggles of Texas Cyclists
The state of Texas has plenty of cars in it doesn't it? But, some of us in the Lone Star State don't drive to work, rather they bike to work. However, new data shows that isn't the best idea here in Texas.
Why Is Biking Tough In Texas?
First off, imagine biking in this Texas heat every day to work. Nobody like being sweaty and then having to work right? But some people still do it, so it's definitely helping the environment overall.
But, this method of transportation isn't without its challenges. The reason is simple: not all parts of Texas are the best for biking. To find out, Velosurance provided the data to discover why the Lone Star State wasn't highly rated for biking.

These were the factors used, as well as their point totals:
- FHWA Funding Score (25 points)
- Infrastructure Score (30 points)
- Ridership Score (30 points)
- Road Law & Safety Score (15 points)
So How Lowly Was The Lone Star State Rated For Biking?
According to Velosurance, Texas had the following scores for each catergory. A 4.0/30 for the state's Ridership Score, a horrid 1/30 for Infrastructure, and a low 4.70/25 in terms of FHWA Funding.
The only bright side was that Texas had a rather decent score of 8/15 for Road Law & Safety. So with all those scores combined, where did Texas land? In the bottom ten for the nation sadly.
Yes, the state of Texas was placed at second worst in the nation for biking. The first state you ask? South Carolina.
So, Texas, we've got a lot of work to do for bikers!
