Federal Judge Redacts Documents, Schedules Hearing in Louisiana Abduction, Murder Case
Communities across Louisiana and Mississippi have been rocked by the murder of Callie Brunett and the abduction of her two daughters.
WJTV reported that a federal court hearing has been set for the man who confessed to the murder of Callie and her 3-year-old Erin Brunett.
Federal Court Hearing Date Scheduled
Court documents say that Daniel Callihan is expected to appear in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi on June 25, 2024, at 2:30 p.m. for both his preliminary and detention hearings
Motion To Keep Details Protected
A motion to keep details in the case against Daniel Callihan was granted, according to WAFB.
The order was filed in Federal District Court in New Orleans on Monday, June 17. Since the case contains sensitive information about children, federal prosecutors from the U.S. District Attorney’s Office requested Callihan’s affidavits be redacted and protected from disclosure. The motion was granted.
Tangipahoa Parish Coroner Ricke Foster reported that Callie Brunett died of "multiple sharp force injuries." She also appeared to have defensive wounds on her arms in addition to the stab wounds to her head, neck, chest, abdomen, and back. The Hinds County coroner believes Erin Brunett died from "asphyxiation due to suffocation".
While Callihan is the primary suspect in this case and has confessed to the crimes in a jarring video, Victoria Cox, who is believed to be his current girlfriend, was arrested in Jackson Mississippi. She was arrested in connection to the abduction of the Brunett girls and death of Erin Brunett.
They have both been charged with 'capital murder and sexual battery' in the state of Mississippi. Additionally, Callihan and Cox face charges in Tangipahoa and federal charges, according to WJTV.
Anyone with additional information about the incident can contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI.
