Single Ticket Wins $1.7 Billion Powerball – Any Louisiana Wins?
Louisiana is experiencing a lottery letdown. It's almost as deflating as the day after Christmas feels. I am sure so many Louisiana Powerball players already had some grand ideas of what they would do with the $1.7 billion dollars the Powerball game was offering as its top prize. But, alas, it was not meant to be for Powerball players in Louisiana.
You've probably figured it out, nobody from Louisiana won the jackpot in last night's Powerball game. But, somebody did. Here's how we arrived at the winner.
That's how the balls bounced out of the hopper last night and needless to say, someone's life is about to change in a very big way. Here are the numbers:
22 24 40 52 64 Powerball 10 Power Play x2
You can verify those numbers at the Powerball Official website. That's where you will also see that the jackpot-winning ticket was sold in California. Early media reports say the ticket was purchased in Kern County California in the town of Fraiser Park. That community is about halfway between Los Angeles and Bakersfield. The ticket matched all the numbers needed to claim the game's estimated top prize of $1,764,900,000.
By rule, the Powerball jackpot will revert back to a starting amount of $20 million dollars. That's how much the game's top prize will be when they play the game on Saturday night.
Last night's Powerball made multi-millionaire winners in Arizona and Pennsylvania. Ticket purchasers in those states not only won the Match 5 prize, they also invoked the Power Play so their winnings were doubled. Other Match 5 winners worth $1,000,000 were sold in New York, Oklahoma, and Virginia. In the states of Florida and California, there were two Match 5 tickets sold.
There were loads of big wins in the Texas Lottery for last night's Powerball game. The Texas Lottery has confirmed that 18 tickets sold for last night's game are worth $50,000 and another eight tickets invoked the Power Play option and those tickets are worth $100,000 this morning.
Lady Luck must have left Louisiana before Wednesday's Powerball drawing because there were no big-money winners in the state for last night's game. The largest prize that we saw listed on the Louisiana Lottery website was $200. There were 27 tickets sold in the state that earned that amount. Another 80 tickets sold in Louisiana matched enough numbers to win a $100 prize in Wednesday's Powerball.
There were no jackpot wins in Louisiana's other games that hold drawings on Wednesday. The Lotto jackpot is now $800,000 and the Easy 5 jackpot is now $190,000. Your next chance to become an instant millionaire will happen on Friday with the Mega Millions game. That game is boasting an estimated top prize of $48 million for Friday's drawing.
