Second Line In The Sky Memorial New Orleans, Louisiana

"Second Line in the Sky” is a temporary memorial and lighting installation created to honor the victims, families, and survivors of the New Year’s Day Bourbon Street attack in New Orleans.

The new memorial includes nearly 1,000 hand-crafted prayer flags, illuminated umbrellas, trumpets, and handkerchiefs, and personal messages, photos, and tributes from family members.

At night, the whole stretch of Bourbon Street glows, transforming the street from a tourist hot spot into a space for remembrance, resilience, and quiet reflection.

The three blocks illuminated by the new "Second Line in the Sky" memorial are the same three blocks a man, inspired by ISIS, used his truck to slam into people, killing 14 and injuring dozens more.

Memorial organizer and co-owner of Arnaud’s Restaurant Katy Casbarian tells wwltv.com -

Remember the families, hold them in their heart during this holiday season as we’re coming to the first anniversary of the terrorist attack.

This is going to be a really hard time for them so I hope people look up, reflect, remember them, hold them in their heart and of course remember the victims as well that are still struggling still.

@trevornorris In the day time Second Line in the Sky is showing the flags showcase the victims, prayers from their families, artwork from local artists including many graphics mainly words or city wide encouragement as well as second line imagery. At night the lights take over the whole entire first 3 blocks of Bourbon. I hope everyone gets to see this before it gets taken down. My phone literally could not do it justice (because it was pouring down raining lol) #frenchquarter#neworleans#secondlineinthesky#bourbonstreet♬ original sound - Trevor Norris
