The snow has fallen and built up across south Louisiana and as temperatures slowly rise, the snow and ice will start to melt.

You may have noticed at your house that the snow and ice on your roof and your vehicle are slowly melting, which can be good news.

The bad news is that melting snow and ice on your house can become a danger, and you need to be alert when walking near it. Today, I heard a loud bang outside, and it was snow falling from the roof of our house.

In addition to the snow falling as it melts, so too is the ice that has built up on the roof or around the house. While icicles are beautiful and solid, they can be dangerous as they start to melt.

So, if you're still enjoying the snow on the ground near your home have fun, but keep an eye out for what may be overhead, and that includes not only the ice on your house but also in trees.

Here's the forecast for Acadiana in the days ahead. As the temperatures warm up, more of the ice and snow will melt and fall to the ground.

Please be mindful of this and stay safe as South Louisiana thaws out.
