(999 KTDY) - The Lafayette Police Department teamed up with various other area law enforcement agencies and the Lafayette Consolidated Government to gather donations of paper goods for Faith House.

What Is Faith House?

Faith House, a domestic violence shelter that houses women and children who need refuge, is a place that can use constant donations of paper goods. Faith House has a network of shelters that house domestic violence survivors. They also offer a variety of educational programs and services to help women working to get out of a violent situation. Their various programs can be found at faithhouseacadiana.com.

Why October Matters: Domestic Violence Awareness Month

All the agencies worked to collect donations throughout October. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Faith House: More Than Just a Shelter

Faith House is more than a shelter, as it is a literal lifeline for those trying to flee domestic violence. Faith House now has two Family Justice Centers, one in Lafayette and another in Central Louisiana.

The Everyday Essentials Survivors Need

You can imagine that when helping people, an organization can quickly use up the following items that local law enforcement and others have collected:

  • Paper Plates
  • Paper Bowls
  • Paper Towels
  • Toilet Paper
  • Plastic Utensils

Officials from multiple departments collected supplies over the past month, which are now being given to Faith House.

Local Agencies That Made It Happen

The Lafayette Police Department, along with other agencies, put out a call on social media to increase donations to Faith House. The following agencies helped to make and get donated items:

  • Lafayette Consolidated Government
  • The Lafayette Police Department
  • The Lafayette Marshal's Office
  • The Carencro Police Department
  • The Broussard Police Department
  • The Youngsville Police Department

Representatives from Faith House, along with law enforcement officials, will gather at the Lafayette Police Department to receive the donations.
