33 People Were Booked Into The Smith County Jail Last Weekend With At Least One Felony Charge
It was a typical spring weekend in East Texas this past weekend with sunny to partly cloudy skies, along with warm and humid conditions and a chance of rain. Thankfully the thunderstorms that moved through East Texas on Saturday afternoon were brief and moved out relatively quickly and then the ones on Sunday held off until late evening so hopefully you didn't have to rearrange much of your outdoor activities.
No matter the weather or circumstance law enforcement officers will still do their jobs and they were doing just that this past weekend. The Smith County Jail processed 78 people into the jail from arrests that were made by Tyler, Lindale, Whitehouse, Arp, University of Texas at Tyler Police departments as well as arrests from the Smith County Sheriff's Office, Texas Parks and Wildlife and Texas DPS troopers.
While it wasn't a holiday weekend, nearly one-fourth of the arrests made in Smith County were drinking and driving related. Nineteen individuals were arrested in Smith County, Texas on 'driving while intoxicated' charges, and of the 19 that were arrested, 3 of them are now facing a felony charge of 'driving while intoxicated X3', meaning this is the third or more DUI charge they've been charged with.
Thankfully there was no report of any major accidents involving drunk driving in Smith County over the weekend. PLEASE let this serve as a reminder to NEVER DRINK AND DRIVE. If you plan on having a good time plan a safe ride home. If you are the host of a party, please make sure your guests have a safe ride home. In the event of an accident, there is the possibility that you could be held liable for any accident that an intoxicated guest of yours has.
