There Were 25 Felony Arrests Made This 4th Of July Weekend In Smith County
East Texans were celebrating all weekend long thanks to the extended 4th of July weekend. Friends and families were gathering for cookouts, spending time on the water, and playing all kinds of games, while the fireworks lit up the East Texas sky.
Unfortunately, fireworks weren't the only thing lighting up the sky, the red and blue lights of law enforcement vehicles were also lighting up the daytime and nighttime sky.
Most events and gatherings within the county were peaceful and went off smoothly, but there were others that got a bit out of hand, and law enforcement had to be called in to restore the peace in some cases some offenders ended up being arrested on various charges. Not all those arrested though had ties to a gathering, some criminals committed crimes on their own.
Crime, it's just something that will just never go away. Unfortunately, crime is a fact of life that a small portion of our population in East Texas turns to, to survive and as they survive it brings hardship to so many of their victims.
Law enforcement officers throughout East Texas do their best not to arrest individuals, but if a crime is committed there are consequences to those actions. During the 4th Of July weekend there were a total of 95 people arrested and booked into the Smith County Jail (Thursday, July 4th through Monday morning July 8th). Of those 95, 25 of them were charged with at least one felony charge.
