This past weekend East Texans took time out to remember those men and women who paid the ultimate price for our freedom while defending our country and democracy as we celebrated Memorial Day weekend in their remembrance.

At the same time thousands in Tyler, Longview, Jacksonville, and Gilmer welcomed summer - unofficially of course - with some fun gathering with friends and family at home, the lake, or at a local restaurant. By the way, summer will officially arrive at 4:51 p.m. on Thursday, June 20th, marking the longest day of the year.

While most East Texans enjoyed their time, some individuals enjoyed their time a little differently. They were partaking in some kind of event or interaction with law enforcement that landed them into some sort of trouble.

There were quite a few arrests in Gregg County during the holiday weekend for driving while intoxicated or under the influence. Several of these were repeat offenders and you'd hope that someday they would understand that doing this activity could affect not only their life, but the lives of innocent people around them. Those that were arrested for this for the first time, let's hope they learn an expensive lesson so that it will not happen again.
