
SOWELA Reports Historic Increase In Enrollment In Lake Charles, Louisiana
(KHLA - Lake Charles, Louisiana) - SOWELA saw a huge enrollment spike for this year's fall semester.
For the first time in the college's 87-year history, enrollment has surpassed 4,500 students thanks to the 20% increase.

KPLC is reporting that the focus on addressing industry labor demands and the high-paying, in-demand positions offered to graduates are credited by SOWELA with the rise in enrollment in these programs.
Additionally, WalletHub has ranked SOWELA as Louisiana's top community college based on Cost & Financing, Education Outcomes, and Career Outcomes for the eighth time in nine years.

SOWELA’s programs with the highest growth this fall semester:
- Criminal Justice - 47.06%
- Aviation Maintenance at38.64%
- Vehicle Maintenance and Repair at 35.14%
- Welding at 29.89%
For Spring 2026, registration is already open, and students are advised to sign up as soon as possible to maximize their scheduling opportunities. For individuals who meet the requirements, financial aid and scholarships are available.
