The American Red Cross has published a guide of key items you should have in your hurricane kit. I recommend getting plastic totes to store the items in so they can be stored easily and moved to a vehicle if you need to evacuate.

Hurricane season begins June 1st, however, that doesn't mean a storm can't form in the Atlantic or Gulf from now until the official first day of the season.  It's best to be prepared.
