New Phase Of I-20 Construction Will Cripple E. Bossier Traffic
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has just upped the ante in regards to travel in Bossier City.
As DOTD enters into the newest phase of the $117 million I-20 reconstruction project, motorists are advised that beginning Tuesday, August 6, the Industrial Drive (LA 782-2) interchange ramps will be closed for reconstruction.
The advisory states the I-20 eastbound off-ramp and the westbound on and off-ramps at Industrial Drive will be closed to allow the contractor to remove the existing pavement and roadway base, and replaced with new base and concrete.
The eastbound on-ramp to I-20 from Industrial Drive will remain open.
This interchange closure is anticipated to be in place until late-September 2024, weather permitting.
Motorists can access I-20 from the Benton Road or Airline Drive interchanges. The Old Minden Road interchange remains closed at this time for continued reconstruction.
Other construction work on the project is continuing, including pouring concrete for new travel lanes on the interstate, drainage improvements, and nighttime concrete panel repairs on the Shreveport side of the project.
Commercial motor vehicles remain prohibited from traveling through the work zone under Louisiana Revised Statute 32:237 due to narrow lane widths in the reconstruction section from Hamilton Road to Industrial Drive.
These vehicles are required to utilize the I-220 as an alternate route.
The entire project is scheduled to be completed in late 2025. The DOTD website has more info about the project, and provides access to additional resources and information.
DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.
Area residents should exercise caution when driving, walking, or biking near an active construction zone.
