I-20 West in Bossier to be Completely Closed One Night
In the latest update regarding the I-20 reconstruction project in Bossier City, there's good news and bad news.
I-20 Westbound Set To Be Closed One Night This Weekend
The bad news is that the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has just announced that this Sunday, October 13, I-20 westbound will be closed near the Old Minden Road westbound on-ramp. All westbound traffic will be diverted onto I-220 at Exit 26.
This closure for the westbound direction is scheduled to take place from approximately 8:00 pm to 6:00 am for this one night. This is necessary to allow the contractor to install drainage across the ramp and travel lane.
The good news is that the reason this closure is necessary is because the I-20 major rehabilitation project in Bossier City is continuing to move forward and will soon be shifting into the early stages of Phase 3.
After Months Of Construction, I-20 Entrance/Exit Ramps Set To Re-Open
More good news! On Monday, October 14, three of the four currently closed ramps at the Old Minden Road interchange are scheduled to reopen following their full reconstruction.
This includes the opening of the eastbound on-ramp, eastbound off-ramp, and westbound off-ramp. The westbound on-ramp is anticipated to reopen during the week of October 21st following final drainage work.
Additionally, beginning on the night of Sunday, October 27, the project will transition into the initial stages of Phase 3 with a traffic shift for I-20 eastbound onto the newly paved travel lanes on the interstate.
This transition will begin at 8:00 pm on Oct 27 at Industrial Drive, working back toward Airline Drive with nightly lane closures from 8:00 pm – 6:00 am for approximately five nights.
DOTD will issue additional information for the westbound shift to the new travel lanes once those dates are finalized. After both directions have fully shifted in Phase 3 (driving on new pavement of inside lanes), the contractor will proceed with removing and replacing the existing outside lanes.
As a reminder, three of the four ramps at the Industrial Drive interchange remain closed for reconstruction. The eastbound on-ramp will remain open.
DOTD also reminds drivers that commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) are still prohibited from traveling through the work zone under Louisiana Revised Statute 32:237 due to narrow lane widths in the reconstruction section from Hamilton Road to Industrial Drive.
CMVs are required to utilize the I-220 as an alternate route.
