TSA Staffing Update: How Long Until Air Travel Returns to Normal?
We all breathed a sigh of relief when that government shutdown finally ended, right? Most of us figured our holiday travel headaches would instantly disappear. Well, guess what? Not exactly. Even though the government is back open, we can't let ourselves get comfortable yet with our airport arrival times.
We're still seeing major airports across the country hit hard by the TSA staffing crisis. That chaos, with all those crazy security checkpoint delays, was a direct result of the shutdown, and while things are recovering, they won't instantly snap back to normal.
Experts say it could take a week to ten days for national air travel to stabilize fully. Major airlines are aiming for a return to full schedules before Thanksgiving, but lingering disruptions are definitely possible.
Here’s the incredible news for us locals, though. Amidst all that national slowdown, Shreveport Regional Airport (SHV) is presenting a massive advantage. Mark Crawford, Marketing and Public Relations Manager for the Airport Authority, confirms that it’s "all smooth sailing" locally.
He reminded us of one of the best reasons to fly out of Shreveport: "One of the great things about flying locally from Shreveport Regional Airport is that there is rarely any wait time at the TSA checkpoint."
This speed is a total game-changer for holiday travel planning! Flying out of SHV means you can get through security and to your gate faster, ultimately saving you stress and valuable time. But remember this one drawback: your return trip may still be a nightmare.
Flying back home from major, delay-stricken airports like IAH, HOU, or others could still mean havoc on your return flights. So, plan for extra time and long lines on your way back, but enjoy the quick trip out of Shreveport!
