The Great Debate: What’s Louisiana’s Favorite King Cake Flavors
The 2025 Mardi Gras season is underway as the twelfth-night celebration took place last night all over the state of Louisiana. Now folks are getting ready for Mardi Gras balls, parties, and get-togethers.
If you have never been to a Mardi Gras ball or a Mardi Gras party, then you must know that one of the must-haves at one is a Mardi Gras King Cake. For those of you who may not be familiar with a king cake, you may be asking what is a King Cake and what is it made of.
A king cake typically consists of dough rolled in cinnamon sugar and then baked. Some king cakes are plain while most are filled with some sort of filling and then colored purple, green, and yellow sugar or icing is applied on the top of the cake which represents the Mardi Gras colors.
In some cases, a small plastic baby is hidden inside the king cake. Why? It is just a way to have some fun but if you are the one who finds the baby inside your piece of cake, you are responsible for buying the next king cake.
Now let's talk about the flavors of King Cake. Some people prefer the filling to be a straight filling like lemon, strawberry, etc while some prefer a cream-based filling. Lately, people are getting creative with fillings like a boudin-filled king cake or even a peanut butter-filled one.
