Louisiana’s Newest Children’s Museum & Nature/Science Center Opens Today
(Lake Charles, Louisiana) - A new Children’s Museum and Nature and Science Center is opening today in Louisiana. The new venue has been under construction for the past two years but has now been completed and is ready to open its doors today, Monday, April 21, 2025.
It is a brand new Children’s Museum with some extras. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is also involved in the project, and there will be a Nature and Science Center located inside the museum.
The new Children’s Museum and Nature and Science Center is located right off of I-10 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The building itself is very unique, as the architecture of the building is a cool design.

The project is part of a project to revitalize the lakefront area in downtown Lake Charles and will welcome the locals and interstate traffic, and visitors starting today. Right next to the museum, there is a Crying Eagle Brewery and restaurants being built on the lakefront, also.
The new center is called Port Wonder and will be open from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Saturday each week. For pricing for entry, check it out here.
Some of the features of the museum and nature, and science center will include interactive freshwater and saltwater aquariums along with several galleries that will feature reimagined exhibits.
According to Matt Young with Visit Lake Charles,
The LDWF Nature and Science Center will showcase Louisiana’s rich biodiversity with several aquarium exhibits, including the 1,500-gallon Bayou Tank, 300-gallon Oyster Reef Tank, 6,900-gallon Cameron Jetty Tank, 2,200-gallon Rig Reef Tank, and finally, a 2,900-gallon Touch Tank.
