Here's a topic no one in Louisiana ever wants to talk about, hurricane season. No one along the Gulf Coast, especially here in Louisiana, wants to deal with it ever, but with the recent string of bad weather here in Louisiana, we need to keep our minds on the topic.

The 2024 Atlantic Hurricane season begins on June 1, 2024, and from the looks of the storms we have had lately in Louisiana, we may need to stay vigilant. We have seen storms blow through even this week with 60 to 70 mph winds and top sustained winds at over 100 winds.

We saw several tornados in Southwest Louisiana, one that started in Westlake Louisiana, and lasted until it reached the Atchafalaya basin East of Lafayette.  The weather has just been crazy.

According to Penntoday.com,

A record-breaking 33 named storms are forecasted for the 2024 North Atlantic hurricane season. That is a staggering number.

Now is the time to start having your plan in place. It is a good idea to list things you need to have if things go South.

You definitely will want to make sure you have gas cans, cash on hand, an evacuation route planned, batteries, and a generator if you can purchase one. Just remember less than four short years ago, Southwest Louisiana got slammed by two hurricanes within six weeks of each other and was out of power for more than 30 days. Here is a list of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane names.
